Normal hairdresser chat is completely absent here. The conversations Mia has with her new friends cover major current issues. The women, from different backgrounds, express their opinions openly and honestly, without fear of rejection, which makes for fully rounded discussions.

If that all sounds ‘oh-so-worthy,’ the light-hearted, lively style ensured I was engaged throughout. The author has a clever way of addressing political, social, and faith issues in a realistic conversational way. The humour scattered throughout doesn’t hurt, either.

I thoroughly enjoyed how this engaging story challenged and expanded my own thoughts about the issues the characters discussed or faced themselves.

This book is an interfaith dialogue with uncommon freedom of speech. In these times of growing censorship, it is refreshing to read books that do not abide by political correctness and are not afraid of offending, while still remaining respectful.

Sometimes the best way to gain a good perspective on your humanity is to get a good haircut at the right salon… Even when a pandemic rages across the world, one needs connection, good friends, and family.

Reality can be touching and full of empathy with the right hairdresser.
