Sam Gilchrist Hall

Sam Gilchrist Hall has worked as a teacher of English Literature and Language at universities, NGOs and language schools in Britain and Central Europe for the last decade. An enthusiastic proponent of fool’s errands, he has also written a doctoral thesis, entitled Shakespeare’s Folly: Philosophy, Humanism, Critical Theory, published by Routledge in 2017. His current research, which he spends much more time talking about than doing, focuses on the development of concepts of decadence and degeneracy in utopian fiction.

Initially intended to provide its author some relief from academic writing, Inside Virgil Caine soon developed to tell the story of a man from the outside, from the perspectives of people he affects in major or minor ways. Sam's poetry has been published by Broken Sleep Books in an anthology entitled Masculinity: an Anthology of Modern Voices (2023), while his academic publications can be found here.

Sam is also one of the co-authors of Roof Cats, a collaborative work published under the pen name Eukalypto.
